Breakthrough
03:21
|
|||
Hey I'm no hustler, I try to stay honest as they come
I'll tread through trench and over mountain if you
point me in the right direction
Like some eager benchwarmer c'mon and put me in coach
I can perform under pressure and I promise not to choke and
My knuckles are getting sore from
Knockin' against your invisible door
When all I wanna do
All I wanna do, all I wanna do, all I wanna do
Is breakthrough to you,
breakthrough to you, breakthrough to you, breakthrough to you, yeah
Breakthrough to you
Take me on as apprentice, I'll sculpt the next Venus de Milo
I'll be a damn good intern, if you let me do more than fetch your cappuccino
and for every one rejection note I'm twice determined
I might not make it first to the finish line
but I will get there with time and
My knuckles are gettin' sore from
Knockin' against your invisible door
When all I wanna do
All I wanna do, all I wanna do, all I wanna do
Is breakthrough to you,
breakthrough to you, breakthrough to you, breakthrough to you, yeah
Breakthrough to you
And it's knock knock (who's there?)
Knock knock (who's there?)
'Cause you have to answer sometime
and I'm not goin' anywhere
My foreheads gettin' sore from
Bangin' it against your invisible door
but I'm gonna stay right on track because
I didn't save anything for the way back and I'm just sayin' that
Woaaaahhh
All I wanna do, all I wanna do, all I wanna do
Is breakthrough to you,
breakthrough to you, breakthrough to you, breakthrough to you, yeah
Breakthrough to you

Winter Scene
03:18
|
|||
Paid our cover at the door, X drawn on our hands
No one's takin' off their coats, not even members of the band
As I kid I had this painting of these kids in their snowsuits
In a schoolyard full of slush that they kicked at with their boots
Shufflin' to their own beat amidst the snow and sleet
Ba da das
Years later it's like nothin's changed, we're at the El Mo
A bunch of kids in snowsuits tryin' to watch a rock show
And I'm not shufflin' to a beat, just tryin' to maintain some heat, yeah
Pull your loved one's close, maybe even your enemies
We're all in this together, part of this indoor winter scene
Ba da das
We like our beer icy here I got one at the bar
And now I'm cold inside and out, guess we're all masochists at heart
But the lights have warmed the band a bit and they've shed a layer off
If we all move in a bit closer we might help each other defrost
And I'm not shufflin' to a beat, just tryin' to maintain some heat, yeah
Pull your loved one's close, maybe even your enemies
We're all in this together, part of this indoor winter scene
Ba da das
Pull your loved one's close, maybe even your enemies
We're all in this together, part of this indoor winter scene

Potential
02:50
|
|||
A voice over the speaker plays,
"Thanks for travelling with us today"
Annie steps off the plane and unpins her hair
'Cause there's a world where no one knows her out there
And she roams from place to place alone
With a bunch of masks for her travelling show
Back home she's poor, here she pretends to have riches
Back home she's a martyr, but here she'll burn bridges
And her mind wanders through some scenario
Where first impressions are the last
Who knows what could happen tomorrow
When the potential is so vast
Yeah back home she's shy, here's she's got confidence
Back home she's a little modest, here she'll show a little skin
There's no heavy burden of expectation
If tomorrow you're just headed for a new destination
And your mind wanders through some scenario
Where first impressions are the last
Who knows what could happen tomorrow
When the potential is so vast
And back home she's just working reception
She wears conservative clothes and goes to bed by eleven
But she's built a life and found community here
Yet sometimes all she wants to do is explore new frontier
And her mind wanders through some scenario
Where first impressions are the last
Who knows what could happen tomorrow
When the potential is so vast
Her mind wanders through some scenario X3
Where the potential is
So vast

Grown-Up Games
03:37
|
|||
My tutor smells like iron and clay
He biked through the rain again
I ask him why he doesn't drive
But he just smiles and he never
explains
His phone's smashed like spider webs
Just get a new one I said
I guess when I'm older it will become plain
Like these are all some sort of
Grown-Up Games
Now mummy's back from her apartment in New York City
We watch the news on the TV
There's a crowd on screen my tutor's clear in sight
And his cardboard sign says, "Robin Hood was
Right"
"If you want my money," scoffs mummy,
"Get a job, stop
complaining"
I guess when I'm older it will become plain
Like these are all some sort of
Grown-Up Games
Days later my tutor arrives
I said, "Don't teach me to multiply, teach me why
mum and you don't like each other but you've never met"
He said, "I'm sure we'd like each other but it's more complex than
that"
I guess when I'm older it will become plain
Like these are all some sort of
Grown-Up Games
Double Dutch, Hop-Scotch
I don't wanna think so much
Marco Polo, Jungle Gym
Back to those school yard antics
Hide and Seek, Merry-Go-Round
Let the adults sort it out
Cops and Robbers, Simon Says
For now I'll just go out and play

Take Me Back
02:26
|
|||
Take me back valley that I love
Oh these rivers rush eddies through my blood
These mountains lend strength to my bones
Even though I may choose to roam
When I was young mamma called me a wand'rer
From the school-yard through the world I'd soon meander
I've seen a few of those world wonders I've explored a little culture
But when I'm spiritually sick there's only one sure cure
Take me back valley that I love
Oh these rivers rush eddies through my blood
These mountains lend strength to my bones
Even though I may choose to roam
The people of the Andes say Gods are in the mountains
Each newborn assigned a peak for his or her protection
If that is so, then I have grown under the shadow of an army
They watch over me wherever I may be
Oh, Take me back valley that I love
Oh these rivers rush eddies through my blood
These mountains lend strength to my bones
Even though I may choose to roam

Limoilou Blues
03:34
|
|||
It's been the same thing each Tuesday for 30 years
The 'ol boys jam on the blues, Jeanette serves 'em beer
They all had big plans once, now their long gone, disappeared
Started off with a day-job that ended up their careers
Now they continue to play because it passes the time away
Their eyes once flashed gold now its a sad sapphire
No dream come true 'cause now their retired
Lou likes to talk about the big gig he almost acquired
And their just singin' away the blues at Le Pub Limoilou
She blew in like a blizzard on the Carnival winds
Shakin' up the place with an unusual rhythm
And her voice, could-a summoned lost souls
And her guitar playin' was out of control
So all those 'ol boys thought, "She could make me a lot of money"
And their eyes flashed gold but her's flash fire
She's a dream-come-true just when they thought they'd retired
Bernard from Ramouski says he'll make her a star
But she wont forever sing the blues at Le Pub Limoi...
And time's a devil taunting you with moments that don't last
You pass the torch but it's haunting you with flickers of the past
Oh, to live that dream again
Oh to live that dream again
Oh she just had to walk in
Jeanette noticed a problem around 3 'o clock
All the players kept playin' and couldn't seem to stop
All these friends fightin' friends, back-deals, and bloody strings
She thought to herself, "I should probably do something"
So that rabble-rousing lady, out the door she did escort
And their eyes flashed gold but her's flash fire
She's a dream-come-true just when they thought they'd retired
Bernard from Ramouski says he'll make her a star
But she wont forever sing the blues at Le Pub Limoilou

Runt
03:28
|

Runt, smallest of your litter
Working double time, just to get by
Oh but Runt, backed into a corner
One brutal strike would leave your offender bloody and surprised
Half-pint, full heart, weren't supposed to make it far
Riff-raff, street-smart, sprinter with a late start
Spirited misfit using ever inch of the short straw
And I guess heroes can come from anywhere
So if I'm sad or feeling sorry for myself I just think of you
Runt
Oh Runt, you're a survivor, yeah
Your peers and younger friends could not keep up
Oh but Runt, you earned your admirers
You carry on you carry all the others on your shoulders
Shaggy, scraggly ragamuffin, little song bent out of tune
Tattered and frazzled, so ugly that you're pretty cute
Whatever god created you thought he'd have a laugh or two
And I guess heroes can come from anywhere
So if I'm sad or feeling sorry for myself I just think of you
Runt

Whiskey Ain't Cheap
02:26
|
|||
Back in college after their study sessions
Jack and his friend's always went to the pit pub
To talk about the world they'd change
While sippin' on whiskey like some philosophers club
And back then whiskey wasn't cheap
And they didn't have much money
Just some dreams and exam sorrows Makes you wanna drink the bottle hollow
Drink it down X4
Now Jack's out of school but working in a factory
Not quite what he expected but at least he gets along
Unemployment's high and he's got loans to pay
He wrote his mother and said “I feel like some sort of Springsteen song”
And most his friends are the same way
They don't go out so much anymore
Sippin' on whiskey is just too much of a luxury But it's in these times they want it even more
And back then whiskey wasn't cheap
And they didn't have much money
Part time job and a big debt load
Makes you wanna drink the bottle hollow
Drink it down X4
Then he got a letter in his mother's chicken scratch, it said
You can work all day for a little pay
But in the end you should always have enough
For whatever little thing that might bring you some small joy
So here's a toast to you and the time's you're going through Here's some green and this one's on me
Back then whiskey wasn't cheap
And they don't have too much money Just some dreams and a big debt load Makes you wanna drink the bottle Maybe have one more big bottle
And then drink that bottle
Hollow.

I’m distant enough not to hear the ground shake
But I read the headlines online today
I feel blessed, and then I feel ashamed
There’s a man on the corner shoutin' the news
Sayin' tomorrow God will choose
and “Terrible times in the last days”
My friend says that she can’t relate
But we should probably get drunk later on today
It's just in case
And if tonight the world ended
Then how would we spend it
Oh I think I'd just spend it right here...
My friend confessed she called her sister
Just to say how much she’d miss her
When her sister rises with the holy
...and she’s stuck here to rot with me
So I poured some wine
We stayed up all night
And cheered when we saw the sun rise
And if tonight the world ended
Then how would we spend it
Oh I think I'd just spend it right here...

Le Corbusier's Lady
02:20
|
|||
She left art school to get married at 23
They bought a pokey 50s house on a suburban streer
But he left her ‘cause she didn’t want a family
So she took 2 jobs and night school to finish her degree
Finish her degree
“Une maison et une machine a habite”
This machine runs on style
And she’s Le Corbusier’s Lady
On her first day as curator in a high-end gallery
She called up a firm specialized in modern housing
They tore down those bricks from the past
And put new ones up with clean lines, stucco, and glass
Stucco and glass
“Une maison et une machine a habite”
This machine runs on style
And she’s Le Corbusier’s Lady
She sips Merlot in her black dress celebrating
Her home featured in Modern Homes Quarterly
While neighbours scorn the sore thumb of the neighbourhood
But when you’re it you’re often misunderstood
Misunderstood
“Une maison et une machine a habite”
This machine runs on style
And she’s Le Corbusier’s Lady

Northern Lights
05:28
|
|||
Little girl supposed to be in bed but you're not
No, you're leaning on the windowsill staring at the sky
Watching those green waves on the horizon
They rise and fall to some silent lullaby
Jump out of bed shake your parents and wake them up
It's not Christmas time but it's close enough
And it's like greeting some old friend
You just never know when you'll see them again
Those Northern lights
Dance all night
Dance all night
So you're a lady now the city calls you south
Drawn to neon lights and different sorts of stars
But sometimes it all seems a bit overwhelming
It's nice ot go back home and lie down in your old backyard
Curl up in the all the blankets you can find
And as the temperature drops you hope they'll shine tonight
'Cause it's like greeting some old friend
You just never know when you'll see them again
Those Northern lights
Dance all night
Dance all night
Instrumental
And it's like greeting some old friend
You just never know when you'll see them again
Those Northern lights
Dance all night
Dance all night
